Eric Bishop began a lifetime of climbing at the age of 14, when he began using ropes and climbing rock, ice and mountains in high school (along with lots of hiking and backpacking . In 1994, Bishop earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Natural Resource Management from Johnson State College, in Johnson, VT; he planned to seek work with the US Forest Service. Eric decided to travel west of the Mississippi first, never having been there. He completed rebuilding a 1971 VW Bus that summer and struck out across country for adventure. Along the way, his dreams of working for the Forest Service faded as he discovered he could make a living doing what he loved the best—climbing.Eric received his ISA Certification in 1997 and after working with a handful of tree care outfits in Albuquerque, started his own enterprise March of 2000 - Eric’s Tree Care LLC. Eric’s Tree Care grew and Eric’s enthusiasm for arboriculture grew as well. He volunteered both with Think Trees NM, assisting in organizing the local conference and with RMC-ISA as the NM representative.Eric’s love of adventure compelled him to continue with SCUBA training he received in college. Just prior to the Parramatta, Australia ISA Conference of 2011, he earned his advance SCUBA certification and dove the Great Barrier Reef after the conference. In 2019, after 20 years running Eric’s Tree Care, ideas of adventure and new horizons compelled Eric to sell the business. After a couple of years, though, the desire to push arboriculture and tree care work forward called him back, and he joined forces to create this shared enterprise.
